Unseen Parallels
Unseen parallels - Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig is one of the most well recognized and decorated architects in the world, and a titan of innovation. I openly love architecture and design - I find strong connections with both reconstructive surgery and aesthetics. "Form follows function” sits at the core of all those fields, and every case poses a unique challenge that requires an efficient and aesthetic solution - it’s that space between realizing and defining the challenge and executing the solution where the skill set is expanded and the innovation happens. As a student of the process, I’m always fascinated to learn how people navigate and solve problems, and here I get to see one of the world’s best. Interestingly, it seems to be the creative process utilizing the foundations of hard science and math that drives innovation and creates the fun aspects, as he is known for unique, kinetic gizmos that end up being beautifully simple solutions to complex problems. We both have been heavily influenced by growing up in the Pacific Northwest and a connection to the unique mountainous landscapes, and now my interaction and experiences with him and the entire team is influencing the way that I approach my practice.
